Galeri Nasional Indonesia

Galeri Nasional Indonesia – Direktorat Jenderal Kebudayaan – Kementerian Pendidikan, Kebudayaan, Riset, dan Teknologi merupakan sebuah museum seni rupa modern dan kontemporer Indonesia yang terletak di jantung ibu kota, Jalan Medan Merdeka Timur No. 14 Jakarta Pusat. Sejak berdiri pada 1998 dan resmi beroperasi pada 8 Mei 1999, Galeri Nasional Indonesia (GNI) melaksanakan pengkajian, pengumpulan, registrasi, perawatan, pengamanan, pameran dan publikasi karya seni rupa berupa lukisan, sketsa, grafis, patung, keramik, desain grafis, ilustrasi, fotografi, seni kriya, seni instalasi, dan media alternatif lainnya. Karya seni rupa yang menjadi koleksi GNI/koleksi negara jumlahnya 1.898 yang sebagian dipamerkan secara periodik, baik pada pameran tetap, pameran temporer, maupun pameran keliling.

GNI telah menjalankan berbagai program, di antaranya pameran, edukasi, kemitraan, dan publikasi karya seni rupa yang dipresentasikan dalam berbagai ragam medium ekspresi visual yang menarik. Program-program GNI disajikan dengan melibatkan berbagai pihak, mulai dari instansi/ institusi/ lembaga/ yayasan/ galeri/ komunitas seni rupa, pusat kebudayaan asing, hingga masyarakat umum, dalam skala nasional maupun internasional. Program tersebut dapat dinikmati masyarakat dari berbagai kalangan, baik para pembuat kebijakan maupun masyarakat umum.

GNI terus berupaya mengukuhkan perannya dalam menyediakan informasi dan data di bidang seni rupa sebagai sumber pengetahuan; mewadahi potensi seniman untuk menggelar karya-karya dengan prinsip kurasi dan manajemen pameran yang baik serta mengembangkan pewacanaan di bidang seni rupa; juga menumbuhkan pemahaman, penalaran, kreativitas, inovasi, dan kecintaan terhadap karya budaya bangsa melalui karya seni rupa. GNI menjadi pusat kegiatan seni rupa (art centre/exhibition centre), juga sebagai barometer mutu sekaligus representasi wajah perkembangan dan kemajuan seni rupa Indonesia.

National Gallery of Indonesia – Directorate General of Culture – Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology is a modern and contemporary art museum located in the heart of the capital city at Jalan Medan Merdeka Timur 14 Central Jakarta. Since its establishment in 1998 and official operation on 8 May 1999, the National Gallery of Indonesia (GNI) studies, collects, registers, preserves, safeguards, exhibits and publishes artworks of paintings, sketches, graphics, sculptures, ceramics, graphic designs, illustrations, photography, craft art, installation art, and other alternative media art. There are currently 1,898 artworks in GNI’s/state collections, some of them are exhibited periodically at the permanent exhibition, temporary exhibitions, and traveling exhibitions.

GNI also holds various programs of exhibitions, education, partnerships, and artworks publication presented in a variety of interesting visual expression media. GNI programs involve a wide range of parties, from art institutions/ foundations/ galleries/ communities, foreign cultural centers, to the general public, on national and international scale. The programs are suitable for people from various backgrounds, from policy makers to the general public.

GNI continues to strengthen its role in providing information and data in the field of art as the source of knowledge, accommodating potential artists to exhibit their works under the curation principles and proper exhibition management as well as developing discourses in the field of art, also fostering understanding, reasoning, creativity, innovation, and affection to the nation's cultural creation through art. GNI is a center for art activities as well as a barometer of quality and a representation of the development and progress of Indonesian art.
